Hi all, I recently saw Magic Dick play with Shun Ng and noticed he had a very simple set up - one of Greg Heumann's ultimate 58s right into the TC Helicon Mic Mechanic and into the PA system. It was a small venue and he switched often between chromactic and diatonic. Very clean sound and great tone (although you know it's Magic Dick so a lot of that is his decades of playing).

I'm just curious if anyone else has used the Mic Mechanic as a pre-amp to go straight into the PA? Of if there are other similar set ups that you have used to plug into a PA?

Thanks,Dennis

Hi Dennis, I'm not familiar

Hi Dennis, I'm not familiar with the Mic Mechanic, however, I have been successfully using the new Bose S1. Since my spine surgery, hefting around heavy gear was not in the cards anymore. Small and light--without compromising my sound became the battle cry:

  • I mount the Bose S1 onto a mini-speaker stand and raise it level to my ears (approximately 4' behind me)
  • Either wired or wireless (Shure SLX) I plug a Ultra57 into one of the mic channels and set the Bose "ToneMatch" (effects) to INSTRUMENT
  • Reverb is set to 10:00 with Bass and Treble set to 12:00
  • Line out is a balanced TRS 1/4" so I connect a short TRS 1/4" cable into my impedance matching DI box and XLR mic cable into the PA board

Not only do I have a fantastic monitor--I can hear every note I play, even when the rest of the band is cranked up to 12! the audience can enjoy my performance as well.
