I hope it won't p*** anybody off from outside the UK to read an irrelevant post (!) but I'm wondering if there are other UK members on the site?

If so, give us a post! It would be good to hear from you as I don't know many other harp players from these shores. I currently live in Hull, East Yorkshire. There's not much of a blues scene round here although that means when I do play it's generally well received as people don't hear blues being played live too much! I'm currently trying to piece together a new line up but struggling for a decent drummer. Plenty of woodshedding in the meantime and I'm looking forward to getting my TB groove on stage, or the bandstand as the US guys say..!

Look forward to hearing from anybody or, if not, at least I have the priviliged status of being the number one UK guy :O)

Another UK member here, living in Devon. Haven't played with a band at all - still learning the basics at the moment.

Also for UK members:

The History of the Blues Harmonica Concert (Barrett, Filisko, Gruenling) can be downloaded here:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/filiskobarrettgruenling

Well worth the money, though you don't get the liner notes - not sure if they can be downloaded anywhere.

Hey man, thanks for the post! Fair distance from Hull to Devon but I'll give you a shout if I'm ever down your way, which is unlikely for a while, having been hit by the recession and lost my business! It's given me the blues alright.

Thanks for the link- I'm tempted to buy a hard copy when I muster the dollars together.

On another note, there's a "National Harmonica League" convention in Manchester on April 18th but I guess that might be a bit far for you..?

Anyway, good to hear from you mate.

Rob

Do I count?

Does it count if my family moved here from England in the late 1600s? We must have p****ed someone off to come across that big ol' ocean to go live in a wilderness. And the harp hadn't even been invented yet to entertain them while they were waiting to get scalped!

Wow!

Does that come with a title from the Queen? By the way, we won't mention that little thing where a few of their grandchildren went off to enlist in some Continental army in New England. I think it had something to do with the price of tea or such. But no problem, I'm a coffee drinker! :o)

Hi Munkymush!

Hi mate, good to hear from you. I've been playing on and off for a few years and consider myself to be a fairly experienced lip pursing player but I'm fairly new to the toneful world of tongue blocking. Then there's the big chromatic axe to work on and plenty of scope for developing 1st and 3rd position playing..!

The great thing about the harp is that you're always learning, whatever your level. It's often a humbling experience to listen to great players doing their thing and you often realise how much you don't know! One thing's for sure- There's so much great material on this site that I wish it was around when I started as it would have made progression so much easier!

Enjoy your journey with the harmonica, which potentially will last as long as you do!

Rob
