I give up!! I hope someone else is using this and can give me some advice.

In order to make better recording I bought the UA-1G USB audio interface and it come with Sonar-LE 6 software. The inteface make sense and is pretty stright forward but the software is beyond me it really isn't user friendly since I've been trying to use me and the software have not become friends!

I managed to record once and thought I was ok till I returned to build on my previous experience and find I can't get it to record anything, I see the audio bar indicating something not so what and no audio envelope on the track.

Is anyone else using this and can you direct me to just the basics of recording audio from a mic and maybe some common things needed to make a good recording.

I'm sure this is good stuff but I don't have thsi kind of time to blow on a learning curve, I need to get recording I'm due to submit the next lesson.

Thanks in advance of any advice given.

Mark

sonar le 6

is that the upgrade for the cakewalk music creator program i think they are made by the same people but you have to make sure to save the recording or its lost forever the music creator program i would import the backing track save it so as everyone does make mutilple trys at the song submissions till i was happy with it and save it again if you dont start off saving you have to import the track over and over again

Try Audacity

You might also try the free program Audacity. it's a bit easier to use than Sonar.

I use an older version of Sonar. it's very powerful, but the learning curve can be frustrating.

Yes!

I do save the imported file when I could get the audio input from the UA-1G to record me, I got it to work once so I thought when I came back and recorded again I should have no problem building on what I had previously done which was to record myself playing to a jam track and then I saved it. The second time I can't get it to work and I don't know why

Winslow, I previously was using Audacity and maybe I should try it with this UA-1G interface and my mic audio will sound better I was just getting frustrated recording with my computer mic or bullets with adapters down to 1/8 in jk for my computer then not liking the quality of audio. It's hard enough for me to play it all good but to not like the audio on top of it really gets frustrating. I was hoping this would solve that so I'll try recording to audacity again with the UA-1G adapter maybe thats the marriage I needed.
Thanks guys!

I 'll let you know!

PS
I realize too that maybe it's not all the devices and could very well be me I accept that reality however when I record myself on a pocket digital recorder the audio sound is better and more in line with how it sounded while I was playing and that is what I'm judging the quality of audio on when I'd record the old way the audio just sounded more like a recording on a cassette player thin and tinny. I just wanted to point that out because I know it possible to have unrealistic view of yourself when doing these kind of things but I 'm trying to be objective and realistic about the problem. Thanks again!

Thanks!

Winslow I retried the Audacity only this time interfacing with the UA-1G and I think it should work just fine. I re listened to my original submission usung direct input to computer (yuk!, not sure what dave heard in that) but this software is more for me and the interface is still a handy tool with input level control and other things I can do with it and other types of audio input, so I'm happy. Thanks for pointing me back to the right path!!

Great!

Great! Getting computers and audio working properly can be frustrating - especially when you document what you're doing and follow precise procedures only to get unpredictable and mystifying results. Grrr.

Getting something that accurately captures your sound is really nice. Even nicer when you can then get yourself sounding the way you do in your imagination :) Recording devices, like metronomes, can be a depressing reality check - but so beneficial when we use these tools to improve.
