Hi,

I have some problems with my 10 draw. I breath in and it has a slight "delay" of air going in before the sound comes out. all the other notes sound good so I don't think it's a problem with my technique or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

Troubles with my 10 Draw

Hi Crazymilk
Good to hear from you.

Ah, that pesky 10 draw. Although, I did not catch the key harmonica you are playing--the smallest (shortest) reeds on standard diatonic harmonicas can be found on Eb, E, F, F# models. When you compare it to the lower octave, say reed #1, reed #10 appears to hardly move at all.

If you find yourself using the 10 draw with your big five hole octave playing (think William Clarke, Dennis Gruneling, etc.), or simply like to noodle around in the upper octave, then increase the gap on the 10 draw reed by approximately .001" (refer to past Harp Tech Studies for techniques).

If you are using the 10 hole primarily for blow bends (think Whammer Jammer), then I would recommend keeping the draw reed gap the way it is (remember, it is the draw reed doing the heavy lifting when blow bending ;o) When playing, remember to keep the tip of your tongue forward enough that you can feel the back of your lower front teeth. This will "tune" your mouth for easier blow bending.
