Hello everybody, I'm new in this forum, my name is Danilo and I am from Rimini, Italy. I apologize for my english, I never studied it in school. I like Jerry McCain very much and I would like to study an instrumental called 728 Texas, where Jerry plays a Tremolo. Which kind of tremolo I have to buy to play this song? I think it's in C key but I don't know if it's a 21 holes or 24 holes tremolo, or another kind of harmonica. Can someone help me?

Best regards.

Danilo.

Hey Danilo,

First, it's not a standard Hohner Richter-tuned tremolo. You can hear him using notes in the bottom octave that would require an Asian-style tuning that gives a complete scale. (Where he found such a harp in 1965 is a bit of a mystery.) You could use a Suzuki or Tombo.

Whether it's a 21 or 24 I don't think matters very much because he never goes into the extremes of the low or high range. You could play this tune entirely on a 21-hole harp.

The recordings on Youtube (which come from  the same 45RPM issue) all seem to be at a pitch that doesn't quite match anything. One of the versions comes close to sounding like C minor (which would be a Bb harp) whille another is lower that D but closer to D than D-flat. I'm guessing that a C harmonica would be the most easily available and that the original was probably in D. You could use software pitch correction to put it in D, and use a C-harp. (Although the slowed down almost-B-flat version is kind of funky.)
