Hi.

I am just about thetting the hang of tongue blocking, however I am facing real problems shifting from one hole to another, especially going from a hole on the right to a hole on the left. My tongue just disloges and moves to the other side. Any tips for the same? Thanks

Hello a.majumdar18. I'm not sure what you mean by your "tongue just disloges and moves to the other side," can you explain a little bit more for me what happens when you try to tongue switch (playing hole 1 for example). Thank you... with more information I can answer your question better.

First of all thanks for the quick reply.

Essentially whats happening is when i slideleft to right - say from hole 6 to hole 7, my tongue blocks the necessary holes and i get a single note. However, whenever i try to slide in the other direction - say from hole 7 to hole 6- my tongue dislodges and moves to the other side of my mouth, covering the wrong holes.

Perfect, thank you for the

Perfect, thank you for the clarification. What's most likely happening is that you're pushing your tongue onto the face of the harmonica, thus when you move left, your lips move, but your tongue does not. The fix (and general good technique on the harmonic) is to use a very light touch on the face of the harmonica with your tongue. Also, the top of the tongue (blade), which is wider, more easily covers the amount of holes needed without needing to press your tongue into the holes of the harmonica. This will give you a flat, light approach on the harmonica, which will allow you to easily glide across the face of the instrument. Give this a try, and some practice, and report back.
