I often see vintage amps with plenty of new caps, new tubes, etc., but they still don’t sound or work right. Why? Because good servicing is the first investment you should make, not the last. I know it's tempting to "just give it a cap job and a set of tubes," but that's like putting a new engine in your 1964 Chevelle when all you really needed was a fuel filter!

not quite sure

re i fully understand what you mean here. are you just saying that if there is a problem with the amp, you need to address the specific problem, not just put in a bunch of new parts and hope that'll fix it?

Hello Dave- Not quite.....

Hello Dave- Not quite.....

An old amp is likely to have several service-related problems, so fixing just one specific problem won't do. Replacing a bunch of parts because you are hoping it will fix the problem just shows that you don't really understand what you are doing. On the other hand, if a component is bad and the amp can't work properly, then it must be replaced.
