Your comment on the music stand found me in enthusiastic agreement. I think for beginning harp, it's essential. I've found that when I'm practicing without it, I tend to put my head down - especially if I'm sitting - and I tend to drool into my harp. The Seydel 1847s aren't too tolerant of excess moisture and the reeds stick.

With the music stand, you keep your head up (assuming you've put it up at eye level), which keeps the drool out, but also helps to maintain your posture for stage presence. The shy look doesn't entertain as much as looking out over and through the crowd (trolling, as my wife is fond of calling it - something she's expressly prohibited since 1990).
