Hi everyone, I have been playing harp a couple of years but this last year I have been spending 3 hours a day on it. Here is my question ...any ideas how I can keep timing without tapping my feet like most players do?? You see I messed my knees up in a snowmobile accident and it hurts when I lift up to tap my feet. I mean it really hurts to where it throws me off to do it. So any ideas on how I can keep timing another way? I use a metronome at home but I don't any other time but I want to keep the beat.

The sway

Take a look at Joe Filisko's submission "18 harmonica insights, #7- rhythm, groove and the sway". Using the sway can effectively replace the need to tap your feet and Joe goes as far as to say that it might actually be preferable if you have timing issues when tapping- I know that I do and although I foot tap instinctively (heel to toe actually) I also find the sway to be a very effective technique at certain tempos.

thanks, I was thinking about

thanks, I was thinking about doing something like that but I didn't want to look like I was having spasms or something. Glad to hear others keep timing like this so I wont seem unusual not tapping feet. I have to play sitting down because of my knees though so I don't have many choices other than swaying. I watched all of filiskos videos too and a lot of great information for the aspiring harmonica player
