Hiya David, so I've been practicing temperature for my level 2 and I have questions haha.

So these days I'm really busy so the only practice I can squeeze in is: have a harp in my pocket and play what I can remember for a minute or two (harmonicas are so awesome). I've been practicing temperature from 3rd chorus to 7th. So I should probably practice it with the track in my ear but that's not always possible and I've noticed I have a hard time doing 7 6 +6 +5 +4 (end of first line 6th chorus) at the right speed. When I practice it alone I tend to slap the 7 and +6 and I slow it down :| . Also when I zone out and I enter autopilot sometimes I'll slap the 34 34 +4 +3 on the line just above the 6th chorus.

So any tips on how I could practice doing the 7 6 +6 +5 +4 in the right time. I guess I could lose the slap on the +6 but even if I don't slap anything I feel like at my fastest I'm still slower than the track. On the track you go down those notes pretty dang fast haha and the switch from breathe to exhale is also something else to time with the way it slides down.

And about the slaps, technically if I can slap it I should right ? no danger of going into a wrong chord for the song ? Also if I want to finish with 3and4 draw can I slap from 1234 into 34 ?

haha I'm sorry I always have weird questions ;P

Hello Chris. The slaps you

Hello Chris. The slaps you mention in the first paragraph are good choices... go for it... no danger of going into the wrong chord. I don't have any tips for that passage except loop it and get tons of reps... you'll get, just keep playing it in pieces throughout the day.

Alright, This morning for

Alright,

This morning for some unknown reason my speed suddenly increased for that complicated glissando (yay me! haha).

So would you say it's fair to assume that if I can play a note and it belongs then I can play a chord (via slap or pull) along side it ? What about if the song is in minor like for example the snake oil artist study song, is he playing single notes because the chords would be major? Would a minor tuned harp allow for playing chords in that situation ?

Hello R3Dz. Generally

Hello R3Dz.

Generally speaking, you can slap any note, and in most cases pull as well.

Great question about minor... you just have to try it and see if it sounds okay to you. Stay away from flutters (which is a type of extended chord). Yes, a minor-tuned harmonica will sound even better.

Hiya David, I figured instead

Hiya David, I figured instead of making a new thread let's continue on this one.

So still about temperature ( super cool song btw I really love the first line of the 5th chorus. Those notes have bite. Especially that +6!)

So my question pertains to breath management with dynamics. I can manage pretty well for most of the song but there's one part I'm struggling with and you guessed it, it's on 5th chorus.

I'm okay all first line, second line I need to focus on not wasting air on those double notes but here I'm still okay. then right after that you go to -3 +4 -3 -2 -2 -2 -3 +4 into a draw shake.

It's very rare that I play this part up to speed with volume/dynamics and not be about to explode haha. Now for the sake of the lesson I try to mostly do it the way you've written it so I've been sticking to 2 draws but I really wana go +3 there lol.

I'm also wondering if I'm drawing too hard, I'm really not someone who draws hard on his harps in general and I think that part needs more volume so I bring it up a notch but maybe I should kick into the note harder and then try to save air as I hold it ? I've tried this a bit and it works but I'm afraid I'm losing on the value/volume of the note.

What do you think ?

p.s: as always I can record if you need me too.

Chris

Hello R3Dz, I'm glad you're

Hello R3Dz, I'm glad you're enjoying the song. Using the 3+ is just fine... go ahead and make the changes. I also open my nose on all the blows... that helps a lot. Go for the volume you want... with using 3+'s and opening your nose for blow notes will take care of it.
