CR and CM element mics

Posted Thu, 05/20/2010 - 11:33 by Reverblow

It seems that I've come to the conclusion that I need to pick up a good CM or CR mic. I've been playing through a few nice dynamic mics, but, as David says, every blues harp player needs at least one good CM or CR. I have an old Commando, but it seems to my ears to play too bright. I hear many good things about the JT-30 and Shure bullets, although I've yet to test the waters of a mic that big as far as good cupping (I've been using stick mics and an Electro-Voice 638). So, any advice or experiences, models, type elements, etc.? continue reading...

American RC Biscuit?

Hi Fritz. Here's my question-

I've seen a mic on Ebay UK described as a vintage and rare "American RC Biscuit". It has a Shure CM element (no. 99S56RE) and is fitted with a 5/8" switchcraft connector. The mic looks pretty nifty and was listed at a price of £120 (@$180). Nobody bid on the mic but I have contacted the seller who is prepared to sell to me post auction. continue reading...

Astatic Brown Biscuit

Hi,
I just picked up a mint all original astatic brown biscuit and was wondering about the stock element. I was the
first to open it and it has a small white tag that says X45 on it and 30 stamped on the element itself. It has the 2 prong
chord which at the end was not attached very good but I was able to touch the prongs to chord and get a tone out of the element
although on the weaker side. Not sure if it is because of the bad chord end or a weak element. continue reading...

Interesting Mic Site

I ran a quick Google search on the Electro Voice mics you talked about in the previous thread and stumbled across this site:

http://www.coutant.org/contents.html

It's got info on just about every microphone you can think of - including sound samples, data sheets, and schematics.

After peeking at this site, I can see that my day tomorrow will be shot.

No connection, just blah-blah-blah...

Hi Fritz,

Can you tell me about these microphones? Do they sound simular?
Which one of these 2 are more popular with Harp players? How would these compare
with a SM-57? What years were these made? Any idea what these range in price used?

Regards,

Hi Fritz,

I'm upgrading my 520DX element to a CM. I have a harp mic gasket and 99B86 element. Do I need to upgrade any other components?

Thanks

Wezo 45...mic

Hello Fritz,
I really enjoyed your interview with David. I have a question. I am getting my new Wezo 45 head and 2x10 cabinet this week. I have a Custom 1950s Turner +2 with a Controlled Magnetic element, volume control..
I opened it up and it says...Shure Brothers Inc...Controlled Magnetic...Model Number is red but totally faded out and cant read it....does this mean it is a vintage element? I noticed the mic does not have any packing in the back.
I purchased it from Sonny Onofrio for a Sonny Jr 1 amp...
Do you think this is the best mic for my new Wezo? I am a new student with David. continue reading...
