Shuffle Time

Posted Thu, 07/06/2023 - 13:11 by Adamson00

Hello David,

I had a curiosity question that came up while working on Temperature; where would "Shuffle Time v.3" from JP Allen's 'Road to Blues' course fit into the levels of progression?

Thanks!

-Dave

(For those wondering, Dave Barrett taught "Shuffle Time" as a study song at the end of JP Allen's course)

Hello David, i just heard you play Evans Shuffle on you tube a blast from your past.Is there anything on that subject in the more advanced lessons maybe, i like to snoop ahead and see whats in store.

It sounded really good catchy and worth having a shot at as i get better.

Seems its made for the style and tongue blocking ,switching that you are teaching us.

Hello David, now i am retired i can return to study and make progress.First day back and already i have a question.Walk with me 1st chorus,i seem to be doing tremelos 3 times in each of the right places but it seems robotic.

Do you count the tremelos or perhaps i should count the timing to the end of the bar.

So at the moment my tremeloes seem rather obvious and not at all natural. continue reading...

2nd draw or 3rd blow, when and why?

Hello,

Greetings from Mexico! I'm new to the site just going through some of the lessons, but this is something that I have been wondering for a while, when do you use the 2nd draw and when the 3rd blow? I generally end up alwasy using the 2nd draw,

Also, It would be great to have a search bar in the forum that way you can track a certain topic without repiting them.

Solo harmonica study 3, chording note choice

Hello David!

I was wondering why we never play the 3 draw on the draw chord (which I guess would then rather be called a two notes combination) in example 1.1 as opposed to study 2 ex 1.1 where we do.

My guess would be it's because the whole thing has more of a minor feel and the 3 draw is the major 3rd?

And then in study 3 ex 1.2, we play the draw chord both with and without the 3 draw, but there it could be just to add variaton?

Choosing jam track to a song

Posted Sun, 06/04/2023 - 03:02 by Scorny

Hi David,

I've been working on Bombay Stroll, ideally I would prefer the original backing track for the song but obviously cannot use that without Aki's playing on it. I have found a jam track that I can use but the jam track isn't long enough to accomodate the whole song. It ends two choruses plus head repeat(ending) short.

Which is the best way forward with this?

My guess is to find a different jam track or adjust the song to fit?

Thanks

Saul

Do I stay or move forward

Hello David,

I am having a challenge with tonguing (only 3rd day), which I know can take a while to get.  Do I still move forward with the lessons or stay on Home Sweet Home until I can play it successfully using tongue blocking?

Good enough to submit?

David,

How do I know when I've got a study song down well enough that it is worth submitting?  Do I need to be able to execute it perfectly before learning more advanced techniques, or do I just need to be able to play it "good enough"? I've been at it for about a month.

Thanks,

Alex
