Suzuki Bluesmaster

i am interested in the suzuki bluesmaster, which is a little cheaper in the local stores than the hohner models ($AUD55) and the lee oskars ($AUD60). If you have much experience with these i'd really appreciate your advice?

i generally play Hohner Blues Harps or Marine Band, or Lee Oskars. i appreciate there is quite a bit of variety in how these play out of the box, and many will need a little work to play acceptably. i'm just interested about peoples experience with these in terms of major issues..beyond gapping i suppose. are they generally acceptable in terms of being in tune, well built for responsiveness, longevity. any issues with reed alignment?

Not a bad harp for the money,

Not a bad harp for the money, with a little gapping work. One thing to remember is that it will come in equal temperament, which sounds ugly for playing chords compared to the MB or SP20.

Equal temperment..Harpwrench

I finally learned that the Suzuki harps come ...equal or just tuned.....and see why so many use the MB or SP20s.
I prefer the Suzuki feel though .... do you think a Just tuning is preferable to the Equal for chords?

Joe,

Are the Suzuki Manji's Equal or Just tuned? I believe Seydel 1847's are Just, correct?

Manjis have some sort of

Manjis have some sort of compromise that's nothing like just. I think the Seydels are tuned mostly just with a sharpened 5/9 draw as the compromise.

Incidently, I've read a couple of your posts elsewhere regarding you using a couple of Lone Wolf Harp pedals, namely the Octave and the Tone +. Do you think either of those would benefit my amps in a positive way? I have a Harpgear 2, a Kalamazoo 2 (both about 5 watts), and a Premier Model 110 (12 watts). For mics I use a JT-30 CM that I bought from you and tweo dynamic mics, an ElectroVoice 638 and a Shure PE53 stick mic.

I'm not playing live just yet, just practicing and developing my tone, and occasionally jamming with friends for now. I currently rotate between a Lone Wolf Harp Delay and a Hermida Reverb for effects only, but would like to maybe add one more beneficial tone choice to the arsenal.

The Lone Wolf Harp Octave

The Lone Wolf Harp Octave exploits the difference tones in Just Intonation, I like that pedal a lot.
Pat Missin's website is the best resource I know of for explanations and examples of tunings!
