Dear Dave,

I have been playing acoustically for several years but want to do more amplified stuff. I have both a Green bullet and a JT-30, but my little solid-state practice amp sucks.

I like to go to jam sessions (though I have not in several years) and want an amp to bring along eventually. Should I buy the Super Champ and wait until later to buy a better one? Or spend a little more and get a $500 amp (my budget) now? I think I can mic the amp at most places I jam...mainly Rosa's Lounge here in Chi-town.

Lastly...I wish this was around 15 years ago when I first started playing. I have always loved your column in Blues Review and when I found this site I was in heaven! I am an assistant principal and I truly appriciate your teaching approach. Thanks for providing this!!!

-Ken

Great to have you Ken, and I'm really glad you like the site. The Fender Super Champ X2 seems like the way to go. The amp sounds good, it's really just about volume that you'll be spending the extra $ for. The next level up in volume is the reissue Bassman (they early blue-frame one we speak of in the Bassman Chronicles).
