David,

I've started work on The Strut. My tongue-blocked bends aren't accurate, especially on the 3s. Until that's improved, should I just stick to doing the double notes in the first chorus as the lower single notes, or should I go ahead and go for the doubles? In other words, is doing the doubles also a useful exercise to get the bends developed?

Thanks!

Kirsty

Answer

Either approach is valid... using just the single note and then over time adding the other for texture... or... working on the double-bends and developing the power to bend both at the same time. I have not found one way to be superior, so work with what makes for you. Do you prefer "The Strut" over "Take It Easy"?, for LOA you only have to do one, choose which one you like the most.

I've not looked at Take It

I've not looked at Take It Easy yet. I'm splitting time between Gary's Blues, The Strut, the improvisation studes and scales. And trying to do a half-step 3 bend that doesn't sound like a duck call! Plus playing through Temperature and Feeling for the Blues each day. Take It Easy is next on the list for when I start feeling stuck - that's when it really helps to go and work on something different.
