Hi Kinya,

I have a fairly new Seydel Session Steel that I'm really enjoying but while working my 3 draw bends slowly down and up, I'm often getting a slight squealing on the release of the bend. Is this a common problem and is there a simple fix?

Thank you,

Hugh

Hello Hugh, before I go any

Hello Hugh, before I go any further--did you get an opportunity to read the recent thread between Stef and myself. It sounds similar to your situation.

"Weird sound--what could be the problem"?

And like Stef, if you can submit to me a couple of sound files--I could dial in on the cause of your heartburn.

Attaching a sound file

Hi Kinya,

What's the best method to attach sound files here in the forum? I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything.

Thanks,

Hugh

3 Draw Squeak

Hi Kinya,

I emailed two examples of my 3 draw played at medium volume with no squeak and a lower volume that squeaks to David that he forwarded to you. I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Hugh

Hello Hugh, I received your

Hello Hugh, I received your sound files.

I listened to both files numerous times. Your bending technique sounds good, and heading in the direction of 3 hole mastery. I am going to recommend at this time that you continue investing time towards your bending technique, rather than make any mechanical changes to your Stainless Steel reed Seydel harmonica.

The Seydel stainless steel reeds are stiffer than almost everyother harmonica manufacture's reeds using brass, and or phosphor bronze. Even for me, when I jump on a SS Seydel harmonica, I have to be more mindful of my bending technique.

Having written that, my hunch is that players who have gravitated towards SS, did so because the material is so darn durable. Professional kitchens don't have brass cabinets, they have stainless steel! Theoretically, SS reeds should last longer than other materials, before fracturing. What say ye, Master Seydel Tech, Jon Harl?

Your Harpsmith, Kinya
