David...Been studying the " Minor Mambo", Gary Smith artist submission and have a couple questions on the 7th chorus....
a) Are you tongue blocking when articulating the lick?;

b) Although you cover the basic principles of the lick; @ specific note arraignment;
slight movement of the harp; and, slight jaw movement, are there any other practice
techniques that you may pass on that will help me to play that passage?

At present, I have been practicing the lick backwards and forwards.....what I mean is, starting say on the 5
draw and moving to the 4 draw bent...my tendency is to add a note by playing the 4 draw instead of going
right into the bend..

Tenacity!!!! Yes, I get it!!!! Just checking in...Thanks!!!!

Answer

I am tongue blocking that lick, though you could pucker it as well... whichever way you normally play. This one doesn't really have any tricky technique in it... it's just fast. So, just keep practicing that sucker. Start slowly and build speed with time... just making sure each pitch (bend and non-bend) is what it should be. Best of luck on this cool lick.
