Hi Kinya

I came across an older G Special 20 for $5 at an antique sale. All reeds are playing fine but it must be cleaned thoroughly

After removing the cover plates , I don't think it has ever been disassembled. Ichy and a bit of surface rust. Thanks to your other posts I just received simichrome in the mail.

My question is....I am surprised by pins holding the reeds to the comb. Have you seen this and what do you suggest I do?

John

late addition

ps... here are some pics of the project and I removed the pins !!!!!

Drift pins

Drift pins were used originally on Special 20, Golden Melody, and plastic-bodied Hohner chromatic models, until perhaps 1980. You can tap them out and replace then with screws.

Drift pins

so

i had a 1.8m tap and screws. But after accomplishing the task and trying the screw I feel they are too sloppy. I got a 2m tap and screws and will give that a go.

Analyzing the draw plate and flat sanding I discovered it has a slight divot around the 3 draw area.

What is a good method to flatten the reed plates ??

Hi John, good approach on

Hi John, good approach on your tapping strategy.

I'm heading into Harpsmith HQ. I will photograph my two proven methods and post them shortly.

Note: unless you are planning on removing (replacing) all ten reeds from the blow reed plate, our focus will be on the draw reed plate
