Hi Skip

I own a Vox AC15cc1 amp. it has 12inch speaker, a pair of el84 tube and 12AX7 tube. i thin it hase very trebley ,bright and a little harsh tone, i changed stock tube with RCA and General Electric NOS tube but this job was not very effective.

is the changing the speaker can be effective??  I'm looking for round fat tone with smooth treble, and also heared good reviews about Eminence patriot series speaker specialy Cannabis Rex model. what's your suggestion?

Speaker replacement (in a Vox)

Hello Ebrahim-   Thanks for writing.  The big problem is your amp was MADE to have a thin trebley tone.  That is what some guitar players are looking for, but it is not too good for harp.  Unfortunately, I don't think that swapping the speaker will help very much.  Perhaps a speaker that was made for bass (a "woofer") would help a little.

Try a 12AT7 or 12AU7 instead of the 12AX7.   It will cut down the volume which can help with feedback.  Experiment with ALL the controls and get the darkest sound possible, then just keep practicing with cupping and mike technique.

If any BH.com readers have any other tips for this amp, please chime in!

Cannabis Rex

I think the cannabis Rex speaker would probably be the best speaker to use, I have one that I use with a carvin  vintage 16 amp. It uses 2 el84  and 3 12ax7 .  The crex really darkened the tone up compared to the stock speaker.  i would say go with the crex, start with the bass on 10 treble on 0 and mid on 0 then adjust treb and mids acordinglly. And The crex should be easy to sell if you're not happy with it. Oh and it takes awhile to break in so play it a lot.  Plus Every guitar forum reveiw I've ever read on this speaker is that it is a really dark speaker so you know if they all say its dark then you can have alittle more assurence that it is, alot of those guys are super picky when it comes to their tone.
