Hi David:

I'm busy working away on intermediate stuff now, but some holes don't sound. Is this a reed offsetting issue? Perhaps I can find experienced local harp guy to hep me adjust the reed offsets.?

Typically it's just one or two notes; different ones though on fifferent key harps...

Thx much, John C

Hello John C. Which holes are

Hello John C. Which holes are they for each harp (for your common harps). This will give me a better idea of how to answer your question.

holes with no sound

Hi David:

Examples:

1) Bb harp, the draw 2 does not sound. All other blows and draws are fine.

2) D harp, the 2 draw doesn't sound. ditto

3) G harp, the 4 draw does not sound.

No problems with C, A, low F.

Hope that helps.

John

Hmmm. It could be technique.

Hmmm. It could be technique. Play one of those challenging notes and then take the harmonica out of your mouth and look in the mirror. If your tongue in the middle and back is raised, this will cause the reed to not vibrate. If this is the case, experiment... work in the mirror until you can get the tongue down at will.

Playing softer and with a more relaxed embouchure will also make a big difference.

If these don't fix it (with practice), then it may be a good idea to send it to a customizer. If they come back, with the tech saying the harps are fine, then you know it's your technique.

dead hole work again!

Hi David:

I found local harp player who checked reed offetting on dead draw holes today. He found same holes wouldn't sound.  He adjusted, and everything works nicely now.

Problem solved.

Thx,

John

Fantastic. It rarely is the harmonica, but that's great to know it was this time! It's always good to know it's not your technique.
