Solo Harmonica Studies for LoA Levels 1 and 2
Wed, 02/24/2016 - 04:27
Hi Dave, I'm starting on LoA Level 2. I notice that there are a lot of exercises in Solo Harmonica Level 1 that I haven't even looked at: 1.8 - 1.15 and 2.1 - 2.8. Would you recommend mastering those before moving on to the exercises in Solo Harmonica Level 2, or moving directly to Level 2?
And while I'm asking, I can't find an explanation for the bracket below the second through 5th notes in the first measure of Solo Harmonica Level 2. What does it mean?
Thank you. Your instruction is much appreciated.
Nance
Good morning Nance. Solo Harmonica Study 2 takes the patterns you learn in Solo Harmonica Study 1 and places them into the 12 Bar Blues Progression. You do not need to have any further training to jump into Study 2, but it is a good idea to continue work on Study 1 as you have time... they're all cool and in bite-size chunks for practice. Wait for Ex. 2.1 - 2.8 until you've studied pulls (Tongue Block Study 3).
The bracket indicates the portion of the chordal pattern that we use for Ex. 1.2 onwards. I believe I mention this in the video lesson.
