David, What does the italicized 3 above the 4 hole draws mean in Solo Harmonica 2 Ex. 1.5.

Hello Pat. That has to do with the rhythm. The lick 3 4 5+ use what are called triplet-eighths. We're fitting in three eighth notes where there are normally two. The "3" indicates that this is happening.
