Hi David.  I was doing lessons here for a little bit earlier this year using the free 30-day trial that came with my harmonica and I've just gotten a paid subscription to the site.

I just started the first section of Walk With Me back in June, and now that I'm looking at Step 2 of Level 1 again I'm pretty overwhelmed with all the options.  There's the "Walk With Me" study, there's Solo Harmonica Study 1, Movement Exercises Study 1.  Then, within just the "Walk With Me" study there's the study videos for the song, playing with a band, and improvising, and then within just the first part of the "Walk With Me" study there's a reference to the tremolo and vibrato lesson which is its own separate exercise!

So I'm not really sure how I should go about this. I'd gathered that learning the song was the most important part of the lessons as it combines all the different techniques.  Should I continue to work through lessons as linearly as possible?  Or maybe I should work through the first one or two steps of each lesson in parallel?  Does it just come down to what parts I'm most interested in?

Answer

Good morning Mantinone. You're correct, the Study Song is the most important. The Tongue Block and Bending study songs are your core lessons... focus on these and you'll grow well. The Tremolo lesson is also very important, so you want to make sure and watch those videos so that you're using the tremolo properly in "Walk With Me." Solo Harmonica Study 1 and the Movement Exercise lesson are just suggestions, i.e. something you can work on as well while working on the study song... since the songs common take many months (it's nice to have some other things to work on to keep you amused and growing). Best wishes on your studies.
