I'd like some suggestions on purchasing a good small audio recorder that I can record on that I can also download what's recorded to the computer in that I might send it to David for critique. Also would like it to have the capacity to record 1hour (or longer) private lessons that I may reference back too. Hopefully something that records with decent sound quality as well. Price range $ 150.00 or less. Thanks in advance for your feedback on this.

Have you considered a webcam?

Have you considered a webcam? I bought one for under $15 (Logitech dented box deal) and it does a great job. If I just want the audio, I can use RealPlayer to convert the video to an MP3 audio-only track, but being able to record video is very helpful for self-critique, too. Sometimes I just open it up without recording and use it like a mirror. :-)

If you want something portable, maybe a used iPod touch? I think you need at least 4th generation for one with a mic, but you would also be able to use it to play back your study songs and jam tracks. not sure if you can find a used 4th generation one for $150 or less, but it would be so much more versatile than an audio recorder. Plus it can do video recording.

Zoom H1

Quite a few harpplayers in the Netherlands favor the Zoom H1 recorder.
Haven't got one myself (yet).
Price range € 80-100. Should be less than $ 150.

Bought mine on amazon about $70-$100, records stereo, hours of recording, plugs straight into USB port, files are mp3, audio quality is great. Best of all you can record or download a song to it and then play it back "Slowed down" called DPC and you can adjust the percentage, works great!
