I have a build up on my slide plates? I do brush my teeth prior to practicing.. But still there is a gummy build up that  is hard to remove. Some of the build up has hardened. It is not very thick.. I am using alcohol.. But it is having a hard time cutting it? What should I use?

Toothbrush and soap or, if needed, scrubbing pads

Your breath carries not only food residues but saliva and perhaps mucous and skin cells.

Are you removing the slide to clean it? That's the best way to get it clean.

Lay it flat on a flat surface, with the button hanging off the end.

Isopropyl alcohol is overrated for this kind of cleaning. It is not a surfactant - something that gets between things stuck to each other so that they come apart.

Soap is a surfactant. And water will help to moisten whatever has dried on the slide surface.

So, first, get the slide wet and let it soak for a little while.

Then use soap, water, and a toothbrush. If you need to get more aggressive, use a green plastic scrubbing pad or even the steel-wool-like soapy scouring pads (brillo being the main brand name version) - the sorts of things you'd use to scrub pots and pans.
