Hi Skip,

I have aquired a Silvertone 1335 (15" speaker version). It is all original besides a cap job, 3 prong etc. It has a great sizzle to it and is very responsive. Curious if you have any experience with this amp. It could be tamed a bit like most guitar amps. It's pretty loud before it gets to feedback so overall volume isn't a problem at the moment. I'm curious about which, if any, tube swaps that may exist that will give me some different tone. Options, ya know? I ask too because the tube layout is far different than I am used to. This amp is a fair bit older than my others.

Thoughts?

SJ

Thanks for writing. Those

Thanks for writing. Those Danelectro-made can be confusing. What we need to know is the tube line-up. It may (or may not) use a preamp tube or two that has a lower-gain substitute. It's a BIG bruiser... I doubt that it uses any 12AX7s. Let me know!

Tube layout

I tried to post some pics but it didn't work. Here are a couple links showing the same amp:

Tube layout is as follows left to right looking at the back of the amp:

Lower Chassis: 6SJ7 GT, 12AX7, 6SN7 GT, 6L6G, 6L6G, 5Y3

Upper Chassis: 12AX7

Thanks!

Got it. The only tubes in

Got it. The only tubes in there we could play around with are the 12AX7s. Start with the one in the top chassis and give it a whirl!

Hi Skip,Ran through some

Hi Skip,

Ran through some tubes on the upper and lower Chassis'.

-Upper:5751 didn't change much. 12AT7 warmed things up a bit. 12AU7 made things even more manageable but as I understand it they are risky to run in place of a 12ax7? (don't currently have an AY for testing)

-I swapped around on the lower Chassis as well. No discernible difference.

-Thoughts on the rectifier?

Thanks!

There are no safe subs for

There are no safe subs for the 5Y3... leave it alone. There are NO problems with using a 12AU7 in your amp so go ahead if it helps! That is an internet myth unless you have a modern amp (RI Bassman) that uses crappy little 1/4 watt plate-load resistors instead of the typical 1/2 watt resistors. Rock on!
