Hi Greg,

I recently acquired a Unisphere A 585SB.  it has a 2 pin socket, and the thread is rather damaged.  i cant thread anything onto it, even if i had a lead for it.

i quite like these mics, and i'd like to have this one useful.  i'm wondering what would be the best approach to take with it.

any advice or suggestions you have is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi, Dave The SB is the low

Hi, Dave

The SB is the low imepdance version of that mic. The most obvious connector to replace the one that's there would be an XLR connector. You would then need an XLR<-->XLR cable to connect the mic to a PA, or the same cable plus an impedance matching transformer like this to connnect it to an amp or pedal.

An XLR connector can't just be popped in where the existing 2-pin plug is. The XLR format requires a "latch" that holds the cable's connector in. The mic would have to be completely disassembled, the existing tail cut off and bored, and an adapter fabricated to house a proper connector. I can do that job, but it is a good deal of work and would run around $100.
