I also like this study song a lot. When I first learned it I thought, man I am getting there now! If I were to offer some positive criticism then I would just say that, with a slow solo like this, there is nowhere to hide and any small nuance can stand out to the listener with a keen ear! With that in mind, it sounds to me that some of the timing of individual phrases could use some work to really sit in the sweet spot. I think I can say this as someone who is very self critical and usually unhappy with something or other about everything I do myself! nevertheless, well done for a good rendition which will get even better- keep up the submissions!

Thanks for the tips I have

Hi Guy. Good job on My Blues.

It seems you've changed it a little bit by playing the head with that James Cotton lick, which is similar, but it is not the My Blues lick! I would be careful with this one because I'm hearing 5 draw, when it should be 4 bend to 4 draw. We need to hear the 4 bend go to 4 draw in order to tie that lick into the similar lick played lower throughout the song (2 draw with dip down to 2 bend, 2 blow then 1 draw).

That lick (it's intervals and/or rhythm) actually runs throughout the whole song - listen back to it and try to hear all the different variations on this one lick (basically every time you see notes faster than an eighth note). It's really impressive how many times David has squeezed a variation on that one lick into the song.

Thanks,

My Blues is my study song for the level 5 test I have allready passed 1 thru 4. I want to complete all 10. This is my favorite study song so far its really james cotton like in style. I have the study 4 song garys blues also on youtube if interested just search it under "guy preston garys blues". I usually spend about a month on a study song before I submit it some of the earlier levels didnt take quite that long though. I usually will put 2 versions of each study song on utube one when I first learn it and one when I think I perfected it. But I liked "My Blues" so much I made a few versions where I added some improv. The version here is just as written I believe.
