securing screw on connector in Turner 256 shell
Hi Greg,
I am trying to install a screw on connector in a turner 256 shell.
The shell is thin so there is no threads like on a Shure Bullet mic where you might just screw it in. I expect I just need some loctite and tighten the nut on the inside of the shell. However because of the angle of the shell where the connector goes in and it's small size i am having a hard time getting at the nut. Is there a special tool I should be using? I've tried getting at it with a small crescent and its not working because of the angle and tight quarters in the shell.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Andrew
Hi, Andrew
Welcome to my world. Properly installing a connector is almost never simple. (Your assumption about Shure shells is incorrect - you can't just screw the connector into a Shure shell either.) Angles can make tighning a nut difficult. A little loctite is OK but too much Loctite can literally insulate the connector from the shell, losing the ground connection. I often have to modify tools to get them to work - in this case a short 1/4" drive socket might do the trick, but you might have to grind flats on the side of the socket so you can tighten it with a wrench if there isn't clearance for the socket handle.
