Hi,

I would appreciate some guidance on when to use scales and their chords or soloing blocks and their chords.

Also, should I learn chords for the D blues scale as well?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Mon1979. Both are just

Hello Mon1979.

Both are just tools to help you in your soloing, so there is no right or wrong place to use them. Some players identify more with using scales... others with using a range, and being creative within in it (soloing block)... others focus more on learning licks and applying them. So, explore these concepts I teach and you use which ones feel most useful.

Yes, if you're playing in 3rd Position, you should also know which notes of the blues scale are in each chord when playing over that chord. All the concepts you learned in 2nd Position should be applied to other positions as you explore them (Chorus Forms, Hole Changes, Focus Notes, etc.).
