Rolling Rhumba

Hi 

Working thr LOA 3 And the extra study Song Rolling Rhumba . Please can someone tell me if everything you play is using Slaps. Thanks Tony

to slap or no to slap

Hi Tony,

Yes so after a certain point, tabs don’t have that dot above slaps any more because slaps are the default technique, occurring pretty much all the time. The exceptions that come to mind are ballads and songs with rock beats (straight eighths, as opposed to swing eighths in shuffles) where they are less common.

In this case, it depends. From what I can hear, at least the longer held/more emphasized notes, often at the start of the bars are slaps, the other ones not necessarily. It would probably make it too heavy. Eight notes rarely seem to be slaps, or maybe sometimes just the first one of a series.

So I’d say rely on what you hear David playing and on what you feel sounds best. It’s not set in stone, there’s a lot of room for the player’s appreciation.
