Hey Skip,

Can you direct me to a reliable source on the internet to purchase new tubes to repalce old ones?

Or should I bring it to you? I'm just a hop and a Skip past Loma Rica in Quincy Ca. The amp is a Silver Face Fender Champ that just started getting some intermittent background noise.

Thanks

Dan

Replacing tubes

Hello Dan- Sorry for the slow reply!  Your question is a great one.  Many times a customer has told me that their amp was noisy so they bought new tubes, which seemed to solve most of the noise problems. However, when I told them to put the old tubes back in their amp, they were amazed to find that the amp was still nice and quiet! How is this possible? Well.....

Intermittent noise is a very common problem with tube amps, but before you buy new tubes, clean the tube sockets! This is easily accomplished by pulling the tubes in and out of the socket a few times while smearing a bit of alcohol or other electronic cleaner on the pins of the tube. If this solves your noise issue, you are ready to rock!

I often see people buy new tubes when all they really needed was socket cleaning!

If you do need tubes, there are quite a few reliable sources. Tubesandmore.com is a good place to start. Feel free to call me about specific brands or recommendations for a particular amp.

Tube swaps (again!)

Hello Mark- Tube swaps are very subjective. All anyone can really do is start experimenting! You WILL find quite a bit of discussion on this topic right here at BH.com, in my forum and others. I would suggest messing around with V1 first!
