David,

I'm in LOA3. I believe you mentioned in in LOA1 that it is acceptable to edit in GarageBand so as to string together segments of different takes in order to record an entire song. That way, a mistake in say the 6th chorus won't necessitate a new recording starting from the 1st chorus. I think this was your point. My questions are two:

1. How short is too short for the segments? I can imagine recording one bar at a time and stringing them all together or one chorus at a time and stringing those together. Obviously, at some point a harp player should reach the level were playing the song from begining to end should be the goal, but, Does it matter for my purposes at this level? How short is too short?

2. At what level does this become self-defeating requiring that we transition to a full-length, one-take recording?

Thanks in adavance.

Ace

Hello Ace, you remembered

Hello Ace, you remembered correctly. Example 1 is not the way to go. You want to record the whole thing at one time. If there are two or three small error areas that you could do a punch in recording, and fix those spots, without obsessing over it, then re-record those small parts. If you have to do it chorus-by-chorus, or lick-by-lick, you don’t know the song well enough to submit. Learning a song from beginning to end is an important process.

Got it

That’s what I thought. Thanks.
