I'm very new to the harmonica but do have some training in reading music. As I'm going through the lessons I see that the numbers are paired with a "+" sign. What does that mean?

Welcome to the site 3lilfish.

Welcome to the site 3lilfish. The plus is an exhale (4+ = fourth hole blow). When a hole number stands by itself, the note is to be inhaled (4 = fourth hole draw). The notation key can be found here https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/tongue_blocking_1
