Hi
I am having a little difficulty in understanding the mechanics of the pull technique. Using the Solo harmonica Study 1 bass lines 2.1. Is the following correct. You draw the 2 hole and then momentarily block 1 and 2 holes and then take the tongue off and with and draw the 1 and 2 holes with a definite articulation with a kind of "pa" . Presumably the draw on 3 hole is followed by similar technique but drawing 1,2 and 3 holes and also with 4 draw followed by draw on holes 1,2,3 and 4.
I have only just started but I can't hear any difference between going from the 2 hole draw straight to drawing the 1 and 2 holes and going from 1 draw to 1 and 2 with the block in between.

Thanks

Answer

You are correct, that is a good explanation of the pull technique. The articulation is subtle, but in the end makes a crisper presentation than just lifting the tongue off. Also keep in mind that the pull is "officially" taught in Tongue Block Study 3, so you'll want to check that out if you haven't already done so.
