Pratice Sessions: What works for you?
Assuming you have 30 minutes a day to study, what works best for you? One dedicated 30 session or two 15 minute sessions split up, one in the AM and another in the PM?
I'm a beginner who today found David's advice here...
LOA #1 Blues Harmonica Fundamentals Practicing, Notation and Approach to Blues Harmonica Practice Approach
I'm trying to put in a hour a day, but find I am playing the lessons over and over...
I just heard an interesting podcast about learning languages - students who learned for 1 hour a day over 2 weeks vs those who learned for 2-5 hour days. Same total instruction time, however those who learned over a longer time period (the two-weekers) had much better recall 2YEARS LATER!
Also found an interesting strategy from Carlos Del Junco on his practice tips while using Amazing Slow Downer - learn the last lick first, then move forward in the song.
i probably spend too much time reading about practicing....
Over the decades I've had teachers for piano, guitar, 'cello and plectrum banjo who've talked about the supposed benefits of practicing in three 20 minute sessions rather than a straight hour. Then I recently re-watched and listened to Dave's wonderful interview with Robert Bonfiglio, and guess what! Bonfiglio makes the same suggestion.
I'm currently breaking some practice days down into multiple, shorter, sessions, and it seems to help me keep up my interest and energy level. Plus I get a lot of laundry done and dishes washed during the "between times"!
My typical day consits of three 20 minutes long sessions. I've noticed that I'm losing focus after 20 minutes and the practice is less efficient. So if I had only 30 minutes a day, I would split them into two 15-minute sessions.
