~ Ok, amp people- I have a peavy classic 212 deuce amp. It sounds nice to me, but I am no tone specialist.
It also has plenty of volume for large rooms. I'm thinking I should still search out the best amp, or should I stick with what I have. However it's a monster to carry.

Can someone list me the pros and cons of this amp? Maybe let me know how old it is? The serial number is 9a-451234 if that helps with the year, and btw it has 6L6gc tubes- (maybe changing the tubes might bring a better tone?) Or should I make it a boat anchor and keep on searching?

Thoughts and advice?

Best regards,
~R

If you like the sound, then you have the right amp! ;-) When you get a chance A/B it with a Fender Bassman LTD at your local music store.

Hello Roszell- I would certainly hang on to the amp. It will be good for loud gigs, especially outdoors. If you can get a good sound out of that beast without feedback, you are doing great! However, it would certainly help out your playing (and your neighbors ears) to look for a much smaller amp as well.

Thanks again,

Thanks for the feedback,
However, I am really liking the Harp Gear Double Trouble. But sort of pricey.
I'm wondering if it's worth the investment. Maybe great Christmas present to myself? I will check out the Fender Bassman-
Thanks again,
~R

Double Trouble

Like most, I kept trying "this will do me" amps and finally bit the bullet and got a Harpgear Double Trouble. I am very happy with it for my kind of use. For home practice I dial down to 2 - 21/2 volume and can still get the 'grit' (or sweet) without breaking windows. I can take it to jams (not heavy at all) and it pumps out the volume against the guitar boys so I can be heard. In the end, if I had gone with it first, I would have saved money but might not have realized what I wanted/needed at that stage.

I think bottom line is like David says, whatever the amp if you like the sound, then that's the one. I had to really understand what 'sound' I wanted and would be happy with, and what other criteria came into play - weight, volume potential (at both ends), tone and $. For some it would be important to also consider what effects you want (amp simulations) and features such as MP3 plug in. Then there is the whole thing around pedals!!! Fun eh?
