Morning David,

I'm currently studying L.O.A.6 and in particular the Solo Harmonica Ex 2.3 Rhumba beat.

Bar 6 has a number of octaves played and I would like to ask the best way to play these. I've played them as an individual slap which at speed (my speed anyway!) sounds quite staccato and doesn't sound in keeping with the rhythm. When listening to you it sounds like you smooth them together a bit more so would it be ok to keep the octave emboucher but slide from one to the other?

I also love the sound you are getting from the 3 draw that regularly appears in the piece I can see a dip notated but is there a small amount of vibrato in there?

cheers and kind regards

Greg

Hello Greg. Players tend to

Hello Greg. Players tend to use slaps less often when playing octaves. Octaves are already such a big sound, sometimes adding slaps creates a sound that's too over the top. In this case I don't use slaps, I am either sliding from one octave to the next, or using my throat only to articulate (same movement in my throat as the tremolo).

Thank you, I'm glad you like the way my 3 sounds. Yes, I'm using a dip that moves into a vibrato.

Glad you're enjoying the study.
