Hi pals.
My mouth is not as big as mail box, it is just as big as I need to play octaves in a chromatic harmonica (well, may be a centimeter more).

I became aware about how big some mouths are when someone said He can play easily a 7-1 in a diatonic harmonica.

I don't know if this is a problem but when I play the octaves I hit the cover plates with my teeth.
Is this normal?

Try opening your mouth wider

Try opening your mouth wider.

I don't know which model of chromatic you're playing, but when I play octaves on a Super 64 (the first chromatic at hand to try) I find that my teeth are floating maybe 2 or 3 millimeters above the covers.

In other words, I have the harp well in my mouth. Opening the jaw to admit the harmonica, I can stlll limit the width of my embouchure to cover only an octave.

I jsut tried octaves on several other models of chromatic - Chrometta, 270, Sirius, CX-12 Jazz, G-48 - and I find that I consistently let my lips deal the covers with teeth floating a little above the lips.
