Hi Winslow,Today I received a Hohner Crossover (in A) to replace the old (1995) second hand Blues Harp MS (also in A) that I have using with these lessons.  The new Crossover is great, except for one thing - I am having a lot of trouble getting it to sound with the 9 draw note. The only way I can get the 9 draw to sound is if I slur from a 10 or 8 draw to the 9 draw.  It sounds well then.  Otherwise it wont work.  If I dont slur then TB, lip pucker, even holding my fingers over 8 and 10 and drawing all give the impression that the reed is stuck.  Eg. if I try to include it in a major scale its just dead.  I dont get that problem with the old MS Blues harp.I am a beginner so I cant be sure if this problem isnt somehow related to technique. But like I say the 9 draw seems to work fine on the MS.I guess what Im asking is this - do you think that the new Crossover could be faulty?  If it is I will send it back.  But if the problem is just my poor technique I will work on that instead.cheersCharlie

I fixed it.  I just took the cover plates off and pinged the offending reed a few times, and now its fine.  Maybe something was stuck in there.

Glad you fixed it

It could have been some debris or even a burr on the edge of the reed or the slot. Or the ap could have been set too low and pinging it may have raised the gap.

Anyway, I'm glad it's working now.

OK.  Thanks for that.  It

OK.  Thanks for that.  It didnt occur to me that a burr might be responsible. Seeing that instument was brand new (ie.it was about 20 minutes after unpacking it when I noticed the problem) I guess that a burr could be a likely culprit.

cheers
