Hello Harp Techs,
I finally retired my little Ultrasonic Cleaner and replaced it with the Chicago Electric/Power Tools, 2.5Liter, Non-Medical Ultrasonic Cleaner Model 95563.

Distinctly different from my 'ol unit, this model is large enough to clean a 16 hole chromatic harmonica--with a tank measuring 3"D x 9.75"L x 5.5" W. And for those stubborn cleaning jobs, I found the on demand hot water feature very useful.

For those not familiar with the joys of using an Ultrasonic Cleaner to clean the non-wood components of your harmonicas, just imagine 40,000 tiny bubbles exploding every second to create a safe and thorough agitation of the water. This invisible brush can reach every nook and cranny. Definitely one of the most important tools at HARPSMITH Central ;o)

I purchased my unit from eBay, but you may want to contact the supplier at 1-800-444-3353 or www.harborfreight.com

Your Harpsmith,
Kinya

Can you use it without the cleaning powder? If not, what is in the powder, and is it save if ingested (i.e. on the reed plate)?

Ultrasonic Cleaner

Hello Homer
Good to hear from you.

For general, light cleansing, I found bottled drinking water works well. For deeper cleaning I pour one cap full of "Euro Sonic" (#81871) available from MicroMark www.micromark.com

Your Harpsmith,
Kinya
