Need help using HarpNinja
I recently purchased the Harpninja app for my iPhone. I think I have the app for diatonic harmonica; I think there was a chromatic app as well; not sure.
I have ios 14.7.1, there is an update to ios 15.2 available.
Anyway, I get an opening screen for the key of C major diatonic. I can't get past the opening screen. There is a settings button but only a few choices and none seem to work.
There doesn't seem to be any support available that I can find.
Any suggestions, anyone?
Hank
mtnhank: The HarpNinja isn't the most intuitive app in the toolbox. I've used it exclusively on my iPhone, through at least three phones and operating system updates. (Currently using iOS 15.2.) For starters, the image shows up only as horizontal. With "Harmonica" is one's home screen. One would think that a page labeled "Harmonica" might be used to change the harp one is using, but no. One has to go to the "Settings" tab. And the setting wheels on that tab are a tad clunky. Add to that, I only recently saw that there's a box on the Settings window one can use for "Low Tuning." One thing that I've found helpful for myself is touching the "Lock" box when on the Harmonica screen, as the graphics then become a tad easier for me to follow.
I'll be hoping for some app updates. E.g., the "Harp Tuning" wheel includes tunings for Lee Oskar MelodyMakers (same as Seydels "Melodic Makers"), country tuning, etc.; however, I've recently acquired (and really enjoy) a G and a Low D Seydel Tony Eyers Major Cross, and HarpNinja does not yet have that tuning option.
Despite its shortcomings, HarpNinja is a wonderful practice tool. Or as I call it, "the lie dectector machine."
Glad to be of help. With the iPhone version a number of other settings require a page scroll down. Good luck.
I have almost stopped using it and just use it from time to time for reference. I have a feeling that it is not good idea to use tunner or this app and rely more on my ear and keyboard
whocares: The HarpNinja is a good training device, but can't replace simply training one's ear. At some point, one hopes to have played (and listened to) enough music to have a good sense of what's working, and what isn't. I would think that if one was on the bandstand with a backing band, and after the show the guitar player told him or her that there was something that wasn't working, e.g., "hey ... that solo you took on X song sounded really out of tune ... what's up?," one might go back into the woodshed with the HarpNinja to make sure those bent notes were right. But at the same time, there are a lot of great players who spend practice time with a keyboard handy, just to check.
The version on the iPhone is a little different from the PC version. To change the key tap settings once you tap settings the c key shown in green can be scrolled down To set tap Harmonica.
