Hey Skip,

Thanks as always for being such a phenomal resource!

I have a used Fender Bassman RI that I bought a couple of years ago from a guitar player.

I have swapped some tubes and changed a couple of resistors because I have a 12au7 in V3 just to be safe.

I love the amp. I'm happy with the sound i get out of it and break up when I push it.

The guitar player who had it before replaced one of the bottom speakers with a Celestion 10 inch Greenback 8ohm 30watt speaker. So it currently has the 3 stock Jensen speakers and 1 Celestion ceramic Greenback.

I'm happy with the amp but would like to have some more warmth and earlier break up.

I have purchased  1 Weber Sig series speaker:

10A125 10 inch, Alnico

8ohm, 30watt, (no doping)

I was thinking about swapping out 1 of the Jensen's or Celestion. (I seem to like the punch of the celestion?)

Some people say having mixed speakers is ok to do.

Do you think having mixed speakers can be a good sound?

If so, which speaker would you suggest I swap out first with the weber, top or bottom?

Thanks!!

Mixing speakers?

Hey Eric- Thanks for writing!  As long as the total impedance of the cabinet is the same ( 2-ohm for a stock Bassman) you are completely safe to try any any combination of speakers that you like. As long as you are using 8-ohm speakers, you are free to mix n'match any way you like. Top or bottom?  I doubt that the difference would be dramatic, but experiment! I would also suggest that changing just one of the four speakers would have a fairly subtle effect on the overall tone of the amp.

Hey Skip!   Thanks so much as

Hey Skip!

Thanks so much as always for the advice! I ended up trying a couple of Lil Buddy eminence ceramics and 1 Weber 10A125.

keeping 1 stock Jensen speaker. Having fun breaking them in and experimenting with a ceramic,Alnico blend.

Thank you!
