Minor Mambo 11th Chorus

Hi David,

I'm having trouble getting up to tempo on the speed lick of the 11th Chorus. Do you know if Gary Smith is tongue switching on this one? I'm not going to say it's impossible for me, but at this point, I'm finding it extreeeemely difficult to get even close to tempo without puckering or leaving my tongue hanging over the side without tongue switching.

Answer

Do what you normally do on the bottom of the harp. I commonly pucker the 1, so I pucker the 1 and tongue block the 2. I have many students that learned to tongue switch for the 1 and they play it well. Gary most likely puckers the entire lick. Again, the answer is what you most commonly do...
