David, I just finished watching your mic videos: "What you need to know", and I have some questions.

As you know, I'm heading in a more rock direction with my playing, so I'm not necessarily always looking for a "blues" sound. In particular, I want to experiment with effects pedals, amp modeling, and various other effects, so my questions are these:

When one is looking to play through effects modulation, would one select the cleanest, most responsive mic at the front end? If so, what would you recommend? Should I look for a wide frequency response curve - more along the lines of a good instrument or vocal mic? I know Ricci uses the 545. What are some of the other rockers in the business using?

The Ev RE10 is a very popular

The Ev RE10 is a very popular mic for people using pedals. Chris Michalek, Ben Bouman and Carlos Del Junco all favour the RE10. Jason Ricci played through one for years.

Also the SM57 or Greg Heumanns Ultimate 545 / SM57 / SM58 are very popular.. Jason RIcci uses Greg's Ultimate SM57 JR exclusively these days.

I agree on your idea and kingley's response. You may want to have a bullet in your collection as well though... just for the variety.

Thanks Kingley and Dave

Oh, to be sure, I'm not walking away from the blues sound. In fact, there are many rock songs where that sound would be perfect (and I'm still planning on playing some blues as well). I'll likely have a few bullets when all is said and done (I'm starting with a lowly Blues Blaster right now). I'll check out a few other options for the effects sound as you two suggest.

Thanks!
