Merry Xmas & Happy Anniversary to Blues Harmonica .com & all the blues harpers out there all over the world. Merry Xmas to David & thanks to all the people involved in running this amazing website. A year has passed already-when I subscribed I didn't even know about tongue blocking- now I cant play any other way-I have learnt so much & there is still so much here I haven't even got too! And I have enjoyed every lesson! The support & encouragement you give to us David is just great & its also wonderful to be able to talk & share ideas with other blues harp enthusiasts. looking forward to another great year-hope you all have a very safe & happy holiday -from Australia!! PS My goal this year is to become better at my (non existent) tremolo!! xxxx

Hi Patricia,

welcome to the NY and all the best in 2011 with crackin the tremelo.

I thought I would drop you a line to see if you know of/ have any info on the harp community along the east coast. I live in Brisbane, have been playing for just on a year and would like to meet and jam with fellow harpers who are startin out and want to give it go along the line David's school performances.......

Any thoughts/ ideas would be most welcome.

Cheers

Hi Julian-nice too hear from another aussie harp lover!! I dont know much about whats going on around the Brisbane area -also hope you are ok & didnt get hit with all the flooding thats been going on. I live out near the Blue Mountains in Sydney. I have been going to our local blues jam (western Sydney Blues club) as its nice and small & everyone is very friendly. I'm also a member of the Sydney Blues Society & they have great blues jams if you can ever get to them. Was lucky enough to go to the Christmas jam & they had Continetal Robert Susz as well as the King Brothers from the Foreday Riders ( & Mr King is my absolute idol) both great harp players aswell as several other harp players who were jamming. I havent had the courage to get up there yet as its very big but its coming!! I'd love to hear from any fellow students of David over here.

Pat

Following on recent "tips of the day" I wanted to share this wonderful and spellbinding performance from Buddy Guy...... does anyone knows who was on harp here?

Happy New Year to you all, cheers Julian

The harp player is Junior Wells. Buddy and Junior did loads of stuff together and there's a wealth of material to check out- have a listen to Junior Wells' seminal album "Hoodoo Man Blues" for a good taste!

Great Album

Just finished reading the book about Buddy Guy and in it he says "Hoodoo Man Blues" in his opinion is the best they made. BUT he also mentions "Buddy and the Juniors" - an acoustic cut of 7 songs with him, Junior Wells and Junior Mance. I had not heard of this one so checked it out on ITunes and immediately downloaded it. In my opinion this is the best ever! No electronics, no amps - straight pure music and both he and Junior Mance play some wicked stuff but the standout here is what Junior Wells does. As an acoustic take the harp work comes through beautifully. Highly recommend it!

Buddy Guy - When I Left Home - My Story

Yeah - looks like that is the one - not sure what the unabridged edition adds. Good prices too. Wish I had seen that before I ordered my hard copy from Amazon. Enjoy it.
