Ive been mulling this idea after watching and reading the work the author speaks to about playing harp.  Its an interesting idea and I am sure good players do this.  His work was a bit too achedemic for me get into my head.

I was fortunate to be able to meet a touring/studio musician last night at a party.  He's a wizard on lead guitar and I ask him.  He did not pick up on mental model but said he goes from mental vision of the song to guitar fingering and music.  But this guy has been playing since he was 9 years old.

Can you add any more color to the idea of Mental Model?  i have been stugging to nail all the essential scales and have now begun to visualize the tabs.  And Im (for example) trying to better visualize the U shaped moved moving up the scale from 6 draw to 7 draw.

Can you any more practical insite for the intermediate player?

Gary

Hey Gary. Take a look at Ryan

Hey Gary. Take a look at Ryan Walker's lessons here https://www.bluesharmonica.com/contributor/ryan_walker, specifically lessons 16, 18, and 20. I cover my thoughts on the mental model there. My mental model is the C Harmonica Note Layout that you're doing in your Music Theory lessons. It's the same visual model that Harp Ninja employed for their app.
