Mr. Barrett:

Thank you for helping me.

While listening to movies, I often hear harmonica underneath the dialouge. Always there is haunting tone and beautiful control over volume.

I wish to develop those skills. My current practice includes 10-15 minutes playing scales to a metronome focusing continually lowering volume.  While I do this, I experiement with my embrouchure and cup trying to reach that haunting tone.

Please do you have any suggestions for improving my practice so I can play haunting tones at low volumes, which I so envy from the movies?

Thank you.

Britt

Hello Britt. I think your

Hello Britt. I think your practice plan is a good one.

I also like to play to jam tracks at increasingly lower volumes. Start the jam at normal volume... play for a little... then lower the volume... play for a little... moving to a whisper-quiet volume at the end of the practice.

Also studying "Improvising Study 3," which focuses on dynamics, is a great idea.
