Thank you for your patience. I just received permission from Richard Sleigh to give our members full access to his REED Chart. For those of you who canabalize donor harmonicas for good reeds, this chart will save you an enormous amount of time and effort.

For example; if you are hunting for a 5 DRAW reed for your A harmonica, this is what you need to know:

  • Note: D
  • ID #Note: 64

This exact D reed is available:

  • Bb harmonica/5 BLOW
  • Eb harmonica/3 DRAW
  • Hi G harmonica/3 BLOW

Pretty cool--uh?

This invaluable resource is available for download:

Do NOT dispose your harmonicas

I hope this will encourage everyone NOT to throw away your harmonicas. Most of the time, there will be 19 excellent reeds to repurpose.

As a HOHNER Dealer, I now purchase my inventory of reeds from the factory--but for the first 20 years, I relied on my inventory of good donor harmonicas to build my inventory of "service" reeds. Richard's chart has been invaluable to me as it will be for you all!

TIP: use pill/vitamin dispensers (cassettes) to organize your reeds. Simply label each compartment with the Harmonica Key, Hole, Note and ID#

Here are what my REED cassettes look like:
