I'll let Kinya offer his more

I'll let Kinya offer his more expert opinion, but my understanding is that all reeds are tuned to zero except the 3rds, which are tuned to -5.  On a C harmonica that would be the Es: Blow 2, blow 5, blow 8.  And then the Bs: Draw 3 and draw 7.

That's what it's like on my Manji G harmonica.

Hello AllI found the Suzuki

Hello All

I found the Suzuki Olive to be closer tuned closer to what SF Jorge reported. The Manji is closer to the Compromised Just (e.g. Hohner Special 20) that we had laid out in past forum discussions.

Tip: Regardless of the temperament, be mindful of your octaves: a series of eight notes occupying the interval between (and including) two notes, one having twice or half the frequency of vibration of the other.

Tune the two (matching) notes until you erase the beating (oscillation). The goal is to make a bigger presentation of the same note:

BLOW (four hole ocatves)

  • 1/4, 4/7, 7/10
  • 2/5, 5/8
  • 3/6, 6/9

DRAW (remember, only the 1/4 draw octave is a four hole octave, the other draw octaves are 5 hole)

  • 1/4, 4/8
  • 3/7
  • 5/9
  • 6/10

Thank you guys for the

Thank you guys for the answers but i'm still a bit confused :)

should I tune it to this layout;

or this

?I don't know what the special 20 default tuning is. basically I would rather have it the same way the manji is set up in default, but anyways I checked my Low F harmonica and I think some reeds are way off, so I would like to know what to change it to.

here is my low f tuning (pretty whacky);

P.S

I am usng peterson strobosoft tuner calibrated to 442.

On Manji's the reeds

On Manji's the reeds sometimes tend to go sharper under higher breath pressures. it can throw things off quite a bit if you're not aware of it. I'd suggest taking your readings at the lower range of your normal playing force, rather than the lightest possible force as some guys like to do.

I maintain and repair the

I maintain and repair the Manji harmonicas for Suzuki endorsee, Andy Just. From acoustic to electric, AJ is a monster player, who prefers the Compromised Just Temperament for all his live and recording session playing.

Due to the weight and length of Low Tuned harmonica reeds, tuning "by mouth" can be challenging. It is difficult to sustain the required, consistant air flow across all the reeds. This is where the Sjoberg (John Ingham) Masterharp HarpTuner is invaluable.

In the meantime, my hunch--particularly if you do not have too many hours logged, is that your LT harmonica is just fine. Go out and make music ... a cent here or there, will probably go unnoticed by listeners and players alike.
